Job Description: Image Scientists are responsible for providing image expertise in support of developing analytical processes and tools as well as assessing image quality impacts associated with collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation and display of digital imagery. An image scientist focused on Modeling, Simulation, & Analysis (MSA) works to model image sensing systems, utilizes those models to simulate data produced by systems, and analyzes simulated results in comparison to desired data quality. Seeking two types of candidates - One Position with specialize in Electro Optical (EO)/ Infra-Red (IR) and the other lead role will specialize in Radar as a Subject Manner Expert (SME).

Essential Functions:

  • Sitting on-site with close, everyday interaction with current customer leadership and other senior government leadership. This level of interaction requires polished communication and facilitation skills.
  • Working with multi-contractor/government team to generate content and briefing material that is delivered to external organizations/leadership to include: Executive branch offices, Congressional Committees, and senior DoD/IC leadership.
  • Excellent organization and multi-tasking abilities with the ability to effectively plan and organize projects and manage and resolve conflicting priorities
  • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Provides image science expertise to conduct image/product quality analysis throughout TCPED chain.
  • Assess utility of image processing routines and advanced algorithms operating on today's baseline and emerging remote sensing systems.
  • Investigates, analyzes, and provides solutions to complex problems encountered by engineering services and quality control using standard engineering practices.
  • Provides guidance and technical expertise to other engineers and leadership
  • Ability to work multiple different tasks and timelines, to include long term studies and tasks to same-day deliveries. Qualifications:
    • TS/SCI w/ CI Poly clearance
    • Bachelor's Degree in Optics, Physics, Imaging Science, Mathematics, or Engineering equivalent with 9 years of experience; or 7+ years relevant experience with a Graduate Degree. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of Image Science related experience.
    • Mathematical background with relevancy to signal processing, image processing, computer vision, or statistical analysis.
    • 6 years of experience with MATLAB, Python, UNIX based scripting, and/or C++ programming.
    • 6 years of experience working with remotely sensed data.
    • 6 years of experience maintaining Image/Product Quality throughout TCPED Chain.
    • Windows and Linux compute environments Preferred Additional Skills:
      • An understanding of image processing techniques and software tools.
      • Knowledge of ground processing architectures and image processing algorithms for passive remote sensing systems.
      • Experience as a Technical Contributor developing solutions for customers, e.g. image processing algorithms, engineering tools to interrogate/measure various characteristics of image data.
      • Ability to develop engineering-level (not production-level) software routines in Python, C, C++, or MATLAB.
      • Exposure to analysis, exploitation, advanced processing of Visible and IR electro-optical (EO) and HSI systems.
      • Exposure or ability to translate software knowledge to LUA code scripting.
      • Experience with DIRSIG for scene simulation generation
      • Exposure to analysis, exploitation, advanced processing of radar systems.
      • Experience with 3D model creation or use of 3D models in scene creation
      • Experience with XPatch, or similar radar simulation engine, for scene simulation generation
